The Ugu District Municipality is implementing a water supply project that will see water delivered to communities on the outskirts of the Gamalakhe area, on KwaZulu-Natal’s south coast.
The project which is expected to benefit the Qinabout, Thembelihle and Chibini areas, forms part of the municipality’s new vision which stipulates that by the year 2035 the municipality will provide adequate access to basic services in an efficient and sustainable manner, enhancing the quality of its citizens in an inclusive progressive economy.Frequent supply interruptions
Commenting on the project the municipality notes that these communities have been living without a formal reticulation system which has led to frequent supply interruptions. “The current pipeline proved inadequate to meet the demand which therefore necessitated that the pipeline be upgraded. The completion of this upgrade will see approximately 1000 households having improved supply,” municipality says. The scope of works on the project includes upgrading the existing 30mm pipeline to a 110mm pipeline.
