Rand Water has urged all residents to use water sparingly while its technicians work hard to restore operations at the Palmiet Pumping Station in Alberton.
According to the utility the pumping station was experiencing an electrical issue which was affecting supply in some parts of Gauteng. The utility also clarified the issue noting that the water supply issues were not related to load shedding. “We are experiencing electrical problems at our Palmiet Pumping Station and the system is at a critically low level. Our Klipriviersberg Reservoir is at below 20%,” explained Justice Mohale, spokesperson for Rand Water.Mohale added that while water supply was restrained Rand Water would be intensifying water restrictions on the network to help alleviate the pressure on the system.
“The affected areas include the City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipalities,” he said. Mohale noted that Rand Water along with its municipal customers would keep consumers informed of the developments on this matter.
