Surprise resignation another blow to SANRAL | Infrastructure news

South African Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL)’s CEO, Nazir Alli, has resigned.  This surprising development comes a week after Judge Bill Prinsloo put the brakes on the controversial e-tolling system being rolled out on Gauteng’s highways. SANRAL’s board accepted Alli’s resignation after it met on Monday to discuss the matter. SANRAL’s chairman, Tembakazi Mnyaka, said Alli would stay on in his post until the beginning of June.  He thanked Alli for his contributions since the inception of the roads agency in 1998.

Nonetheless, the immediate focus and priority of SANRAL’s board is to ensure that SANRAL continues to perform its essential role in operating and maintaining more than 16 000km of national roads across South Africa, Mnyaka said.
