Targeting of vehicles in Harrismith and Belfast | Infrastructure news

Harrismith Parking

Harrismith has (over the past six months) implemented a revenue generating scheme based on prosecuting operators for illegal parking or contravening a vehicle mass limit applied to certain roads in the town. Apart from the initial offence – the vehicle is then impounded and a fee of R4 000 is set for release.

The Association requests that all members submit documentation relating to any occurrence of this nature experienced in the last six months. Documentation includes affidavits from drivers. Notices and receipts issued by the municipality as well as any correspondence entered into between the Municipality and respective members. This information should reach the Association by close of business on Friday 01 June 2012 so that the necessary legal steps can be taken.

Obviously – should further events of this nature occur – members are free to submit such information as soon as this is received.

We have already instructed our attorneys to proceed in this matter which will take on a “class action” approach (ie all affected parties will be represented through the RFA in the matter). Further details as regards progress and related matters will follow.
