Qatar Airways is due to start flying between Doha and Maputo, with a stop-over in Johannesburg, and the Mozambican capital will thus become its 20th African destination, the airline said in a statement issued in Doha.

According to the statement, cited by Qatar news agency, QNA, Mozambique is the fourth African route launched this year by the airline. The route will be operated by Boeing 777 aircraft.

Qatar Airways has a fleet of 109 aircraft that fly to 116 destinations in Europe, the middle, East, Africa. Asia-Pacific, and North and South America.

Since the beginning of 2012 the airline has launched flights to Kigali (the capital of Rwanda), Baku (Azerbaijan), Tbilisi (Georgia), Zagreb (Croatia), Erbil, and Baghdad (both in Iraq).

Over the next three months, Qatar Airways plans to start flying to Perth, Australia, Rangoon, Myanmar, and to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
