SA airport bomb scare | Infrastructure news

According to officials, terminal buildings at the Lanseria Airport were evacuated due to a bomb scare on Saturday, 23 June 2012, after an “unattended” bag was found. The bag was suspected to be full of explosives, officials said.

Gauteng police Captain Katlego Mogale said that the bag had contained a “white substance” which was sent for testing.

Mogale added that cigarettes, dried dates and clothing were also found in the bag.

A witness at the airport said a bomb squad arrived and passengers were moved to the fire and rescue shed. Incoming flights were held waiting on the runway.
