Truck crash causes ten deaths | Infrastructure news

An articulated truck on the evening of 4 June collided with a RAV 4 and a bus on the R40 just outside White River on the Hazyview road, Mpumalanga. All vehicles have burnt almost beyond recognition.

According to preliminary reports the incident left ten (10) people dead, six (6) seriously injured and thirty four (34) more slightly injured.

Commenting after the incident Transport Minister Dipuo Peters expressed utter shock and deep sadness at the tragic incident. The minster also expressed hers and the government’s condolences to bereaved families.

Peters said, “The National Department of Transport will work closely with the provincial department and make sure that the provincial capacity is not found wanting in this situation.”

Further investigation is underway, and the Road Traffic Management Corporation has dispatched a national team of investigators to join the investigation by the South African Police Services.
