Engineer designs wind-powered vessel | Infrastructure news

According to a report by World Maritime News, an engineer in Norway has designed a cargo ship that is powered by wind and gas.

The ship named VindskipTM uses its hull as a wind sail but at times when wind is limited, environmentally friendly and cost-effective propulsion machinery running on liquefied natural gas will be used.

According to the report, using the combination of wind and liquefied natural gas as an alternative fuel to heavy fuel oil, the fuel consumption is estimated to be only 60% of a reference ship on average.
