Consulting engineers GIBB is one of the member companies in the 2 037 consortium for the implementation of Gauteng’s 25-year Integrated Transport Master Plan, spearheaded by the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport.
The Integrated Transport Master Plan is aimed at delivering a world-class, sustainable transport system that supports Gauteng province’s economic, social, cultural and environmental goals for the next 25 years. The primary focus is on improving transportation infrastructure and services, resulting in job creation, skills development and an improved quality of life. GIBB transportation technical executive, Kollan Pillay says that GIBB’s involvement in the project illustrates the company’s ability and willingness to contribute to the growth and sustainability of transport infrastructure and efficient service in the province.Gauteng must emerge as a globally competitive region, and considering the potential energy challenges, technology advances, and population and economic growth scenarios over the next 25 years, motivated the province to develop a Transport Master Plan.
The Integrated Transport Master Plan is intended to prioritise an integrated transportation system, including road and rail-based public transport, and associated non-motorised transport. The final report will be available in July 2013.
