Rainbow Reservoirs, the Polokwane-based distributor of steel panel water storage vessels, has extended its product offering to include very high volume tanks.
Designs for dry bulk storage are included in the extended product offering, made possible by an agreement with CST Industries, a leading United States-based manufacturer of coated tanks and aluminium tank covers. Rainbow’s current range of panel reservoirs has a maximum storage volume of 1.3 million litres. By contrast, CST Industries routinely installs tanks with storage volumes in excess of 20 million litres.Founded 120 years ago, CST has installed more than 250 000 tanks in 125 countries worldwide. Markets served include potable water, wastewater, industrial liquids, bio-energy, dry bulk, petroleum, power generation, fire protection and agriculture.
The CST product is differentiated by the type of panel used to build the reservoir. There are two variations: Vitrium, which is a fusion of glass and steel, and OptiBond, a steel panel powder-coated with epoxy.Vitrium is a single, strong, integrated glass-and-steel material fused together at 815 deg C in a controlled process furnace, and particularly suited to municipal and industrial liquid storage applications. The hard, impermeable, inert barrier on both interior and exterior wall surfaces guards against corrosion and the undercutting that it causes, and offers excellent impact and abrasion resistance. OptiBond, the second type, comprises a premium epoxy power-coated range of panels marketed under the Hydrotec, Bulktec and Petrotec brands for water, dry bulk and petroleum applications respectively. OptiBond tanks are erected and in operation up to three times faster than field-welded or concrete structures. The range handles volumes of up to 23-million litres. Covers for all CST reservoirs are custom designed and manufactured from aluminium. Structure types include domes, vaults, extruded flat covers, formed plank covers, truss supported covers and space frames.
The agreement with CST will enable Rainbow Reservoirs to move for the first time beyond its traditional cylindrical vessels into the rectangular tank format. This will allow tenders on reservoirs limited by space constraints, such as construction projects requiring the accommodation of support columns. Reclaimer systems for the recovery of product stored in bulk will also be offered.
