The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Pemmy Majodina, together with the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Acting Head, Mr Leonard Lekgetho, will on Thursday, 05 March 2026, launch the Water Sector Anti-Corruption Forum (WSACF), a strategic platform in partnership with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to coordinate efforts to prevent, detect, investigate, and respond to corruption within the water sector.
The WSACF is part of a broader effort to strengthen ethical leadership, risk management, and transparency in the sector, and is aligned with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS), which promotes a multi-stakeholder approach to fighting corruption. The structure was approved as part of South Africa’s national anti-corruption framework under President Cyril Ramaphosa’s administration. According to the recent risk assessment of corruption-prone sectors by the SIU in collaboration with stakeholders, the sector is particularly susceptible to fraud and corruption. As a result, the Forum will establish a coordinated, sector-specific, and sustainable anti-corruption framework which represents a proactive effort to protect public resources and guarantee that all communities have access to clean, reliable water. It will also unite all these stakeholders around a common goal: to eradicate corruption in the water and sanitation sector and to restore trust and integrity in service delivery.
Members of the media are invited to attend the official launch as follows:- Date: Thursday, 05 March 2026
