Role Information
- Job title: Mechanical Resident Engineer
- Contract Position Period: This will be a contract position for 24 months.
- Location: Cape Town.
Summary
Experienced Mechanical Resident Engineer responsible for supervising on-site mechanical works, ensuring compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and project timelines. Proficient at coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing contractors, and delivering projects safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise installation of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection
- Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable codes
- Review and approve shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals
- Conduct routine site inspections and enforce quality control procedures
- Monitor contractor performance and progress against project schedules
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, and architectural teams to resolve interface issues
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports
- Verify work completed for contractor payment certifications
- Manage and evaluate variation orders and technical queries (RFIs)
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
- Supervise testing, commissioning, and system handover processes
- Review as-built drawings and operation & maintenance manuals.
Key Requirements
- B-Tech/B. Eng Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional registration with ECSA will be added advantage
- 5–10+ years of experience in complex construction or engineering projects
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC installation, Wet services, Lifts and Fire protection) in the built environment and SANS standards.
