Job Summary:
The Pavement & Materials Technologist provides technical support to the pavement engineering team in the investigation, assessment, design, construction, and quality assurance of pavement infrastructure projects. The role involves assisting with pavement materials evaluations, laboratory and field investigations, construction quality control, data analysis, and the preparation of technical reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Support
- Assist with pavement engineering investigations, assessments and technical studies.
- Support the evaluation and classification of pavement and construction materials.
- Participate in pavement condition assessments and field investigations.
- Assist with the interpretation of laboratory and field testing results.
- Compile, analyse and present technical data for engineering reports.
- Assist with pavement design calculations and engineering analyses under supervision.
- Support the preparation of technical specifications, drawings and project documentation.
Construction Materials & Quality Control
- Assist with the monitoring of construction quality during pavement projects.
- Review laboratory and field test results to assess compliance with project specifications.
- Participate in site inspections and construction quality assurance activities.
- Assist in identifying material-related issues and recommending corrective actions.
Project Support
- Assist project engineers with technical deliverables and project documentation.
- Maintain accurate project records and technical databases.
- Liaise with laboratories, contractors and project stakeholders where required.
- Support project teams during design and construction phases.
Professional Development
- Develop specialist knowledge in pavement engineering and construction materials.
- Keep abreast of industry standards, specifications and best practices.
- Participate in technical training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications
- National Diploma, Advanced Diploma or BTech degree in Civil Engineering.
Experience
- 5 years’ relevant experience in pavement engineering and construction materials.
- Exposure to consulting engineering or civil infrastructure projects will be advantageous.
Knowledge & Technical Competencies
Working knowledge of:
- Pavement engineering principles.
- Pavement materials and material classification.
- Construction materials testing (laboratory and field).
- Pavement investigations and condition assessments.
- Pavement construction methods and quality control.
- COTO Standard Specifications and other relevant pavement engineering manuals.
- Basic pavement design principles.
- Engineering calculations and technical reporting.
- Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
