Hazardous Waste Management Training hosted by IWMSA Eastern Cape Branch – 22 – 26 June 2026
The Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa (IWMSA)’s Eastern Cape Branch will be hosting a Virtual Hazardous Waste Training Course that will be held over five mornings, this virtual course will be run over the week of 22 – 26 June 2026 starting at 9h00 – 12h00.
This Hazardous Waste Management Training Course aims to enable the delegate to identify, sample and classify hazardous waste in accordance with applicable legislation.
It also covers the correct handling, storage and transportation requirements for hazardous waste, as well as some of the reuse, recycling, treatment and disposal options available for hazardous waste
The course is IWMSA recognised and is lectured by June Lombard, Bonte Edwards and Heather Sheared with years of experience in the waste industry.
Topics to be covered during session include:
- Waste definitions – Properties of hazardous waste\
- Waste risk assessments, sampling and analysis
- Hazardous waste handling and storage
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods
- The South African Waste Classification & Management Regulations
- SANS 10234: Globally Harmonised System for the Classification & Labelling of Chemicals
- Determining waste minimisation, reuse, recycling, treatment and/or disposal.
Prerequisite of the course:
- Speak, read, and write English to NQF Level 4.
- Have a National Senior Certificate
- Can speak, read, write in English to NQF level 4 and have some work experience in the waste industry.
Candidates will receive: A certificate of attendance or certificate of competence for a pass mark of 60%
