- Job title: Bridge Design Engineer
- Location: Cape Town.
Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Bridge Design Engineer to join our Cape Town office. The successful candidate will be involved in the planning, analysis, and design of bridge and transportation infrastructure projects across a range of sectors. The role requires a technically strong individual with sound bridge engineering knowledge, a passion for innovative infrastructure solutions, and the ability to contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary consulting environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience in bridge and structural design, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to deliver high-quality engineering outputs within project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Delivery
- Perform structural analysis and detailed design of bridge and related infrastructure projects
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation
- Develop and review engineering drawings and models in coordination with drafting teams
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements
- Contribute to innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions.
Project Coordination
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, technicians, and external stakeholders
- Support project planning, scheduling, and technical delivery activities
- Assist with technical proposals and tender documentation when required.
Construction Support
- Provide technical support during construction phases of projects
- Participate in site inspections, condition assessments, and quality assurance activities
- Assist in resolving technical queries and reviewing contractor submissions.
Key Requirements
- BEng / BSc Eng degree in Civil Engineering
- MEng in Structural Engineering advantageous
- Minimum of 5–10 years’ proven experience in the design and analysis of bridge and transportation structures
- Sound understanding of structural analysis and bridge design principles
- Experience working with relevant South African and international design codes and standards
- Proficiency in engineering design software and modelling tools
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary project teams.
