Kusile J.V. pulls off a health and safety hat trick | Infrastructure news

The Joint Venture between Stefanutti Stocks and Basil Read has for the third year in a row won the top award in the 2015 Master Builders Association (MBA) North annual Construction Health and Safety Competition.

As in the 2013 and 2014 MBA North competitions, the JV’s safety performance on the Kusile Power Station emerged winner of the FEM Super League Trophy for projects valued at R500 million and higher.

Runner-up in this prestige category this year was the Tiber Construction/WBHO Joint Venture for the Discovery Health new head office, with Aveng Grinaker LTA in third place for its work on the Sasol Corporate head office.

Other award winners at the function held in Midrand recently were:

  • Builders Warehouse Trophy for projects between R300m and R500m – Stefanutti Stocks (Eastgate Rehabilitation)
  • Contractors Trophy for projects between R150m and R300m – Tiber Construction (Centurion Mall)
  • MBA North Executive Directors’ Trophy for projects between R75m and R150m – Belo & Kies (Newcastle Crossing)
  • MBA North Safety Committee Trophy for projects between R25m to R75m – GVK Siya Zama (Gauteng) – Transnet Waltloo
  • Ramsey Herd/Nico Maas Trophy for projects between R10m to R25m – NMC Construction (Lafarge Wynberg)
  • Universal Health Care Trophy for projects under R10m – GVK Painting & Restoration (Gauteng) – (Khulani Business Park)
  • BCIMA Trophy for Allied Trades – Peri Formwork Scaffolding Engineering (Polokwane Yard)
  • Plant Storage Yards Trophy – Tiber Construction (Village Deep Yard)
  • Amokoro Training Trophy for Best Sub-contractor (without site establishment) – Gauteng Piling (Summit Place)
  • GVK Trophy for Best Sub-contractor (with site establishment) – JVB Civil Engineering (Discovery Health head office)
  • MBA North Trophy for Best OHS Representative Trophy – F.M. Ngubane of Tiber Construction
  • MEWP Trophy for Best Contracts Manager – Hennie Blofield of the Stenutti Stocks-Basil Read JV for Kusile Power Station:
  • Kevin Bates Carpeting & Flooring Trophy for Best Performing OHS Manager – Johan Kriel of Belo & Kies
  • Pyro Trophy for Best Site OHS officer – Nhlanhla Mpofu of Stefanutti Stocks Building Inland.
