The Free State drought crisis is reaching breaking point, according to a report by eNCA.
Officials are warning that the province has about three weeks of water left. Plans are in place to start implementing water cuts from this weekend. It will result in water supply interruptions between 9pm in the evenings and 6am the following morning. In the meantime, the South African National Defence Force has lent a helping hand to residents of Smithfield in the Mohokare Municipality. In KwaZulu-Natal, Umgeni Water may implement water restrictions.A final decision is still to be made.
Residents could face water cuts from next week because water levels in a dam supplying major areas in Durban are running dangerously low. The province was one of the first to be declared a drought disaster area. – eNCA
