The Buffalo City Municipality has come out to dispute claims that its water supply is contaminated.

According to a statement by the municipality a recent message widely circulating via social media has cast doubt on the quality and suitability of the drinking water supply in East London.

The municipality explained that its scientific services municipal laboratory carries out daily and weekly analysis of all Buffalo City Municipality water supply systems and the results do not in any way support the claim.

“There is no need to filter mains water or make use of bottled water” the city said. It added that the claims made online are unfounded.

“We are used to such claims being made and whenever routine outbreaks of gastro-infections arise. Please be advised that our emergency incident protocol will be implemented and made public in any such instance,” it concluded.
