Hermanus CBD up for further revamp | Infrastructure news

Following the success of the Phase 1 Revitalisation Framework for the Hermanus CBD, the Overstrand Municipality has recently appointed consultants to undertake a Phase 2 study for the CBD Revitalisation.

Over the past 12 years, the Overstrand Municipality and the private sector have made considerable investments in the CBD to implement the proposals of the 2000 Revitalisation Framework.

According to the municipality these have positively transformed the CBD and increased its attraction to residents and visitors and boosted the local economy.

The CBD has now reached a critical phase of the revitalisation where more detailed planning is required. “This framework will identify new projects to consolidate the successes of the last 12 years of revitalisation, improving the identity, sense of place and amenity of the CBD.”

This detail planning will specifically focus on areas such as vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic, parking allocation and distribution, road and pavement surfacing and delineation, street furniture upgrades, signage and information boards and the preservation and celebration of important and sensitive heritage and landmark assets.

The Municipality has appointed Deca engineering (previously ICE Boland) and Gapp, Architects and Urban Design Consultants to complete the Phase 2 study.

“This project will be introduced to the public by way of a public meeting to be scheduled in the near future. Interested and affected parties will be given ample opportunity to submit inputs towards the study,” says the municipality.
