Sanitation staff can’t fake attendance | Infrastructure news

In order to ensure punctuality of safai karamcharis, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has distributed 28 biometric machines among the sanitation contractors. The contractors have further allotted these machines to supervisors. The supervisors have been told to mark attendance of employees twice a day — at 07h00 and 16h00.

“These supervisors will stand at particular points in the respective zones allotted to them. They will monitor the punctuality of the safai karmcharis,” said Dr Aruna Sangwan, sanitation in-charge. The corporation will be able to check the attendance. And very soon, even the public will be able to check the same through our website,” said said Sangwan, adding that it was a long-standing project of the corporation.”

“We have 17 more biometric machines. They will be put to use after the tender work is allotted to new contractors. It may take another few days,” Sangwan added.

Currently, seven contractors have been allotted the sanitation work in 35 wards. As many as 500 safai karmcharis are employed.

However, these contractors will be doing the sanitation work only till a new tender is allotted by MCG commissioner Sudhir Rajpal.

“Each employee will punch their finger in the presence of the supervisors. They will be monitored by us in our office,” said an IT official with the municipal corporation.
