Jimmy Giannoccaro, CEO of G&H Transport and Repairs has become the latest member of the Chemical and Allied Industries’ Association to sign the Responsible Care Public Commitment, thereby committing the company to implementing the guiding principles of this voluntary initiative of the chemical industry.

Louise Lindeque, Responsible Care Manager of the Chemical and Allied Industries’ Association commented that “The safety, health, environmental and quality performance of the logistical service providers that transport chemicals on behalf of the chemical sector has to be of a high standard to ensure that our products are transported safely. Responsible Care has to be extended along the logistics chain and it is therefore important that logistical service providers such as G&H Transport and Repairs adopt and implement the Responsible Care Guiding Principles and Codes of Practice as these will add value to the company’s existing health, safety and environmental management systems.”

G&H Transport and Repairs operates from their head office in Chloorkop, Kempton Park and transports a diverse range of dangerous goods throughout South Africa as well as across borders into all major SADC countries. They also operate depots in Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The company has been involved in the transport industry for the past 20 years and has a company fleet comprising of flatbed trailers, tankers and containers to accommodate the delivery of the various products that they transport. The company has completed their SA Safety and Quality Assessment System (SA SQAS) audit successfully. The SA SQAS audit evaluates the safety, environmental and quality performance of logistical service providers to the chemical sector in South Africa in a uniform manner by single standardized assessments carried out by independent auditors.

With over 150 members in the RC programme, Responsible Care is more than a set of principles and declarations. Through the sharing of information and a rigorous system of checklists, performance indicators and verification procedures, it enables the industry to demonstrate how it has improved over the years and to develop policies for further improvement. In these ways, Responsible Care helps the chemical industry to gain the trust of the public and to operate safely, profitably and with due care for the environment and future generations.
