Waste collection and removal resumed in Umlazi, in KwaZulu-Natal recently after services were disrupted as a result of protest action.
Contractors and staff reportedly worked around the clock, including over the weekend, to ensure that the backlog was removed and that normal waste collection patterns resumed. Regular waste removal and collection schedules were disrupted by the Extended Public Works Programme workers’ strike which saw all sections of Umlazi affected by the disruption apart from the Community Residential Unit in the area.“All contractors, staff, inspectors and managers are treating this issue with the utmost urgency,” the municipality said.
