The KwaDukuza Municipality’s Waste Department has launched a waste minimisation project aimed at improving recycling efforts in and around the city.

The project, which is currently in the pilot phase, involves installing separate waste bins designed to accommodate glass, paper, plastic and general waste in the Central Business District (CBD).

Wilson Mhlongo, KwaDukuza Municipality’s waste manager, says that this new system will assist in waste minimisation in the CBD and will make it easy to recycle.

“As it is still a pilot project, the new system is only available in Ward 19 and has been designed with the vandalism factor in mind. We would however like to assure the public that these facilities have been well constructed and won’t be easily vandalised,” Mhlongo notes.

The municipality expects to roll out the project to more wards within the year.
