Major water installation will leave eThekwini residents short on water | Infrastructure news

The eThekwini Municipality will be conducting a major water installation on the GO!Durban bus route which is expected to leave residents in surrounding areas short on water for a period of 12 to 15 hours.

In a statement released on Monday the municipality said that the Mount Moriah Water Reservoir would be shutdown overnight from 18:00 on 28 February 2018 to 09:00 on 01 March 2018.

According to the City the installation of the water connection will take place on Otto Volek and Dineklman Road intersection in New Germany.

“Mount Moriah services Wyebank and Berkshire Downs reservoirs which supply water in most parts of New Germany, Pinetown and Clermont areas. During the shutdown, these two reservoirs will not be filled up with water until the next morning,” the municipality said

The City said its Water and Sanitation Unit would ensure that both Wyebank and Berkshire Downs reservoirs are full at the time of shutdown so that businesses and residents do not run out of water.

“The City is requesting residents in the affected areas to be mindful that there will be a limited amount of water for use over a 12/15 hour period. Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this time so that the water does not run out,” the municipality concluded.
