Waste removal interrupted in uMlazi | Infrastructure news

Waste removal services in uMlazi, south of Durban, have been interrupted following protest action by municipal contract works which wreaked havoc in the township on Tuesday morning.

According to reports by IOL and the Daily News the workers dumped piles of rubbish all over the Mangosuthu Highway causing a traffic jam and huge delays in and around the township.

The eThekwini municipality has appealed to uMlazi residents to keep their refuse bags in their properties until further notice.

“The City is aware of the disruption of refuse removal service in uMlazi and all relevant stakeholders are being consulted in order to restore the service as soon as possible,” explained Tozi Mthethwa, eThekwini Municipality’s Communications Head.

The City apologised for the inconvenience caused. Residents could call the Durban solid waste helpline on 031-311 8804 with queries.
