Top performing BTech engineering graduates honoured - Infrastructure news

BTech engineering graduates from around the country were recently honoured for their outstanding academic achievements by the Institute of Professional Engineering Technologists (IPET).

The awards, which take place annually, honour the best male and female graduate across all engineering disciplines, from each university, as well as the top achievers across all the universities.

The top male achiever was Sandro Duarte Cesar, who graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). He had an average of 84% and travelled from Angola to attend the ceremony, during which he received a 75 mm gold-plated medal and a framed certificate.

The top performing lady was Asavela Sigonya from the University of Johannesburg (UJ). She graduated in Electrical Engineering with an average of 82.75% and also received a medal and certificate. She is currently a Master’s Candidate at UJ.

Motivated to do more

Commenting on the achievement Sigonya said she was truly grateful for the recognition and that these kinds of events and honours encourage students to do more and be more. “I hope to work more with IPET in reaching out to young people and encouraging those that have embarked on this journey already,” she added.

The other graduates each received a 60 mm gold-plated medal and a certificate for their hard work.

IPET strives to improve the image and status of engineering technologists of all disciplines and is hard at work to ensure that they get the recognition they so richly deserve. It determines the standards for the registration of Professional Technologists (Engineering).
