Working to their principal that says 70% of potential savings and service enhancements in a supply chain come from the re-engineering and integration of logistics processes, Barloworld Logistics have now confirmed their acquisition of fellow South African group Ecosse Tankers, a specialist transporter in hazardous acid-based chemicals, with an agreement effective from the 30th April.

Barloworld initially released details they were considering the takeover some time ago and the agreement confirms the company’s strategy to grow its services and expand expertise in the chemical, fuels and hazardous goods sectors. CEO of Barloworld Logistics Steve Ford commented:

“Ecosse Tankers has thoroughly succeeded in a challenging industry environment. We look forward to leveraging existing expertise as well as an ample client base in making a mark in the chemical, fuels and hazardous goods industries.”

Former Ecosse owners Dugal Sharp and Donald Mackenzie confirmed that Ecosse Tankers’s has recently renewed a five-year contract with one of its largest customers having traded since its establishment in the late 1990’s and now the two men will move into the Barloworld organisation with the role of ‘assisting initial operational integration and then to drive the growth strategy in the chemical transportation sector using current customer relationships and know-how.’
