Ghana heads ECOWAS Road Transport Body | Infrastructure news

The 13th general meeting of Inter State Road Transport (ISRT) ECOWAS National Guarantors ended in Abidjan last week, with the election of Ghana as its new president.

Ghana is represented on this ECOWAS association by SIC Insurance Company Limited, the national guarantor of Inter State Road Transport (ISRT).

Mrs Doris Awo Nkani, acting Managing Director of SIC, therefore, takes over from Mr Emmasnuel Yada, a Burkina.
Mr Yoda completed his tenure at the meeting in Abidjan, attended by other West African member -states.
The occasion was graced by the Ivorian Minister of Trade, Mr Dagobert Banzio.

Mrs Nkani pledged to focus on steps to deepen traffic flow along the interstate corridors of the ECOWAS region.
She said her administration would address the obstacles causing hikes in transport costs and travel time, with the resultant constrains that prevented a full scale economic integration of the sub-regional block.

She further stated that the cumbersome border procedures increased the cost of importing and exporting goods from one country to another.

Members of ECOWAS, as well as other regional and bilateral groups, have been working on reforms to facilitate transit within West Africa from 1982, when ECOWAS members signed an agreement on inter-state road transit.
