Tanzania’s Bagamoyo Msata road – which is 98% complete – will need a further $61.7 million to reach 100% completion.
This is according to the country’s national assembly. The 64km road is being constructed in two phases, with the 60 km first phase complete and the second phase expected to be finalised by March 2016. The second phase of the development involves the construction of a weigh bridge as well as several other bridges along the Rivu Valley. The project has been funded by the East Africa Community (EAC) and the World Bank and is anticipated to enhance cross-border trade between Tanzania and Kenya. The road is also expected to advance road transport between the two countries’ coastlines. This venture will also guarantee easier cargo movement from Mombassa and the Tanga port to the landlocked countries of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.
