Water and Sanitation receives 100 water tanks from Danish Embassy | Infrastructure news

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu received a noble donation of 100 water tanks from Danish Ambassador, Tobias Elling Rehfeld in Mamelodi on Thursday.

The donated water tanks will be distributed to the needy communities in an effort ensure that everyone has access to water that will enable them to wash their hands with a soap regularly to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

She received the water tanks during her assessment of Temporary Residential Units structures that are being built by Housing Development Agency for Mamelodi Hostel dwellers.

Sisulu indicated that the water tanks would be utilized by the hostel dwellers and others will be donated to schools around Mamelodi.

The minister applauded the Danish Embassy for lending a helping hand in the fight against coronavirus and said the donation will go a long way in improving the lives of its intended beneficiaries.

She added that South Africa has strong relations with Denmark which go a long way from when it was not fashionable to align with South Africa to post democracy.

“The Danish colleagues play a large part within the Strategic Water Partnerships Network, more particularly within Water Stewardship, ensuring the most innovative leadership is shared within the Partnership”, she said.

Sisulu further emphasised on the importance of continued collaborations “as there is a need for more industry partnerships in the Human Settlements and Water and Sanitation sectors”.

Danish Ambassadsor, Rehfeld said South Africa has been friends with Denmark for many years. He said they have also donated masks, sanitisers and other protective gears to the Department of Health.

In closing, minister Sisulu called upon the private sector to partner with the
Department to restore the dignity of people and improve their live for better.
