The Rand Water Foundation (RWF) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to safe and reliable water by donating and commissioning four fully equipped boreholes in the communities of Vezubuhle, Rhennosfontein Farms and Gemsbok within the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality.
As a social development arm of Rand Water, the Foundation is mandated to promote access to sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene services within Rand Water’s area of supply. Through strategic partnerships and community-focused interventions, the Foundation implements programmes that improve the quality of life, promote environmental sustainability and contribute to the long-term development of communities. The intervention undertaken follows a request from the Mpumalanga Provincial Department of Water and Sanitation to assist communities experiencing persistent water supply challenges. Guided by its mandate to promote the delivery of water-related services within Rand Water’s area of supply and beyond, the Foundation continues to invest in sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene initiatives that improve the quality of life of vulnerable communities. The project represents an investment of R2,094,743 (Two Million Ninety-Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty-Three Rand) and provides a sustainable water source for approximately 1,687 beneficiaries, including learners attending a local school. The project included:
- Drilling and equipping four (4) boreholes with filtration and purification systems.
- Installation of ten (10) communal water taps.
- Installation of six (6) 10,000-litre water storage tanks.
- Installation of six (6) steel tank stands.
- Installation of supporting manholes and associated water infrastructure.
