After what proved to be a resounding event last year, Talbot & Talbot in association with WISA hosted its second Annual Water Conference on the 27^th June 2013 at the Kloof Country club, KwaZulu-Natal.

The event theme of ‘Water Recovery and Reuse’ followed the momentum of the first conference which discussed ‘Water Supply in a Changing World’ and addressed the challenges industry are likely to face operating in a water constrained South Africa. The water risks facing business and industry are growing as the resource becomes increasingly stressed worldwide.

Speakers represented both the private and public sector and spoke to the implications of a future without secure water supplies, looking at various strategies available to assist industry in taking the necessary action to mitigate for water risk and uncertainties surrounding secure water supply and quality. The programme focused largely on internal measures for improving operational efficiencies to manage supply and demand, as well as highlighted available technologies to assist with water recovery and reuse within industry processes. Speakers included Alistair Green, General Manager Operations at Talbot & Talbot; Maurice Egan, Group Head of Manufacturing, SABMiller Plc; Gavin Subramanian, Planning Engineer at Umgeni Water and Susan Cole, Regional Commercial Manager Sub-Saharan Africa Dow Water and Process Solutions. Valuable industry insight was offered by all speakers and practical examples and case studies highlight possible solutions was given. An interactive question and answer session encouraged dialogue with the audience and related largely to the applicability of the technologies discussed- including skills development.
