Power utility Eskom is committed to providing enough electricity to sustain South Africa’s economic growth and development goals, an official said on Thursday.
This strategy would be effective only through the close co-operation of state enterprises, Eskom chairman Zola Tsotsi said at the launch, in Centurion, of a climate change policy framework. “We are committed to provide electricity that ensures the sustainable growth and development of this country, which enables poverty eradication and job creation,” he said. “Eskom cannot do this alone and again, the framework provides important avenues for collaboration.”Tsotsi said the generation of environmentally friendly and affordable electricity was one of Eskom’s priorities.
“As power generation needs grow, so too does the need for more sustainable, affordable and cleaner sources of energy,” he said. “The challenge we face in a developing economy is that electricity is key to growing the economy and supporting poverty eradication and development.” The event was hosted by the department of public enterprises.Source: Sapa
