Electrical Cable Fault At Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant Reduces Pumping Capacity At Palmiet Station | Infrastructure news

Rand Water informs customers and stakeholders of an electrical cable fault at its Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant.

The incident has resulted in reduced pumping capacity at the Palmiet Booster Pumping Station. Consequently, areas supplied by these reservoirs may experience reduced water pressure or a complete interruption of water supply. Customers in the City of Johannesburg, City of Ekurhuleni and City of Tshwane, as well as the Madibeng Local Municipality. Various industries, mines and other direct Rand Water customers may also be affected. The following Rand Water reservoirs are expected to experience declining storage levels:

  • Klipriviersberg
  • Klipfontein
  • Airfield
  • Northridge
  • Brakfontein
  • Hartebeesthoek.
The Rand Water technical team has started replacing the damaged electrical cable. While the replacement work is underway, pumping at Palmiet Booster Pumping Station is expected to remain at approximately 70% of normal capacity. The estimated completion time is not yet available. Rand Water will provide further updates as the work progresses.
