Glen Robbins is a regional and urban economic development researcher and occasional policy advisor. He is a Visiting Researcher at the Southern Centre for Inequality Studies (SCIS), University of Witwatersrand and also a Research Associate at the Policy Institute for Research In International Manufacturing and Services (PRISM) at the University of Cape Town. He has previously been an Honorary Researcher at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and at the Durban University of Technology. He works as a specialist researcher with a range of academic, multi-lateral, public sector and civil society organisations. He also has extensive experience as a senior manager in metropolitan local government in South Africa and has worked internationally on economic and urban development programmes.
He has a BSocSci (Economic History & Industrial & Labour Studies) and an Honours (Industrial & Labour Studies) from the former University of Natal (now University of KwaZulu-Natal) and an MPhil (Development Studies), from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex (1995). At present he is reading for a PhD at the University of Amsterdam (Geography and International Development).
